About Me

Noriko's Japanese Online

In learning Japanese, there is nothing quite like one-to-one guidance from a native Japanese-speaking teacher who will understand your particular interests and ambitions.

That's what I provide. I'm Noriko. I took my first degree in Japan, then was awarded MA in English by The Open University UK and then trained and obtained a certificate in teaching Japanese at the IIEL (Institute of the International Education in London).

For many years, I worked as a professional interpreter/translator for Sony and Honda UK. I now bring all my experience in the languages into teaching. Currently teaching various private students but also I teach adult classes at Goldsmiths Confucius Institute.

My students are working towards Japanese GCSE, Japanese A-level, JLPT exams and some are at prestigious universities reading Japanese. Others are learning the language for their pleasure, business and hobby. Whatever your aim is, I will try to meet your needs with fun and enthusiasm.

I offer personalised teaching at affordable prices: £36.00 per hour, or £54.00 per 90 minute lesson (private 1-1 lesson).

I teach online and in person. Those who live outside the United Kingdom, I offer the same pricing as the above. You can use Transfer Wise for the payment please.

Zoom makes us connect wherever you are. I welcome students who live anywhere on the globe.

The classes are catered specifically to myself to help develop my weaknesses & further improve my strengths. As someone who came from group classes learning simply via textbooks, the difference is incredibly noticeable. The teaching style is varied - a mixture of listening, speaking, reading and an array of visuals which I personally find help with comprehending immensely. Homework aids with testing oneself to be creative and make use of learnt vocabulary, as well as encouraging to learn more.

Noriko-san is an excellent teacher who I would recommend time and time again. I could not think about learning the language with anyone else now!

Lightning Talks

A five minute speech in front of fellow students and some guest audience. It is not a competition, but will give you an opportunity to integrate what you have learned into the usage of the language. This event has worked well for those who had some trouble in speaking Japanese. Themes or topics are different each time. Lightning Talks are held free of charge, twice a year.

Round the table discussion opportunity! I have a fair number of students who are learning Japanese at the same time as you are. Using the knowledge of such a group of people of all ages and background, I can hold some meetings at which you can exchange some valuable information regarding Japan, Japanese culture and the study, and maybe life in Japan.

Textbook

As the study of Japanese gets popular, there are a series of good textbooks available on the market. I use the most suitable textbook for each student.

Apart from textbooks, I use my own visually assisted materials, some techniques to aid your speaking skills etc. Come and join us! You will find such abundant materials in your hand.
